Rats: Pet or Pest?

Diane Özdamar is a french illustrator / graphic designer / photographer that has spent years photographing rats to break the negative image of them by taking cute pictures, and I think she has definitely succeeded. Or what do you think?

Through Sweden, With Spring

Since I feel a bit like crap, but contented crap, if there is such a thing, after hosting a fabulous birthday party for 15 people I love very much, as an aspie and introvert, that is a bit draining and I have mostly been sleeping since, I will share some of the pictures I took (mostly from the car) on our recent trip to Stockholm. Even though you can just barely see the spring arriving, it’s still beautiful.

Lovely weather on the way home there. Obviously these are non edited pictures taken with an Iphone, but still. I love to live in a country where there are lots of open spaces, countryside, fields, lakes, animals and forests.

Driving through swedenThe winter is so hard, so dark and so depressing this far north, but that makes the coming of spring so much bigger and such a huge miracle! The first tussilago = coltsfoot flowers along the roadsides are truly a thing to marvel about, to take pictures of and carefully pick one or two, but leave most for others to see. And then spring sort of slowly explode, plant by plant. I have so many spring-flowering plants in my garden because of this, lilac, rhododendron, and daffodils to name a few, spring is my favourite season, f**k the hay feever!

Photographing Architecture

Watching the gorgeous, organised, calm and just slightly “off, in a good way” photography of Kevin Krautgartner …

…I wish I had these buildings from Stockholm, that I always loved, closer, to practice my photography on.

The yellow house is “Gula Huset” i Skärholmen designed by Hans Borgström 1973-1975. And the more modern “skyscraper” is “Brommahöjden” in Bromma designed by Per Johansson 2007-2008.

Not that there is a deficit of beautiful architecture in the Gothenburg-Alingsås area that I live in now. 🙂

Top left is “Bastun i frihamnen” a working sauna built in the former industrial harbor of Gothenburg by Raumblabor Berlin (also featured image), top right is Alingsås Museum built by Jonas Alströmer 1730, middle right is “Gasklockan” (gas-holder) in Gothenburg finished 1933, and the two pictures on the bottom is from “Nordostpassagen” built between 1964 – 1969.

The hunt for a Camera Bag!

I am so tired of bad photos! Usually I only carry my Iphone out and about with me and though the built-in cameras has improved hugely through the models they are still not that great.

canon1So I have decided its time to get used to carry around the “big” DSLR camera my dear father in law gave me, it’s a Canon EOS 40D, and obviously significantly larger than an Iphone which it makes up by taking significantly better photos than an Iphone.

I am also trying to get the hang of using the manual settings. But I think I have to get out and about in different light and motif situations to get a better understanding of them. And to do that we need to make a few changes.

First I don’t have a bag, and I don’t want to break it! So I’m looking into getting a bag that I will like carrying around, that is pretty, that is not one that looks like “hey I have a big expensive camera in here”, and one that I can also put my “stuff” in, not huge, just a little bigger than just for the camera.
I have found “The” bag, that obviously is a designer bag and I can not, nor do I want to spend that kind of money on a bag.

This is the “Austin” bag from Kelly Moore. thebag1

It costs $199, but is currently on sale for $99, that doesn’t really help, especially when there is an additional $50 for shipping to Sweden.

Gorgeous bucket bag, vegan too!

I have also found some nice ones in my price range, all have to be ordered via the internet of course.

The “Manfrotto Stile 35 Diva Sholder Bag” in Dove, from Manfrotto. I love all the pockets! But I wish the shoulder straps were adjustable. £35.22 from Amazon.co.uk, and there will of corse be a shipping cost added on that too.

Or the “Olive” DLSR Camera Bag in Blue and Beige from Lencca.olive7

£24.95 on Amazon.co.uk I love this little chic but fun and colorful bag with lots of hidden pockets. Vegan leather!

Maybe you can see on the amount of pictures wich one I have chosen. 😉

I thought I would sew a temporary/light case to use while the bag gets here. And I found some great patterns for that depending on what function you want it to serve.

And then we have to do something about the neckband. Its ugly, uncomfortable and on top of that it’s getting a bit old and is showing some wear and tear. So, either I make a cover for it and keep the original strap inside, or I sew a whole new one. Both good solutions, each with its pros and cons. Here are some tutorials for that.

Left “Camera Strap with lens cap pocket” by Bue Bonnet Acres, Middle “Scarf Camera Strap” by The Thinking Closet and Right “How to make a Camera Strap” By Ikat Bag.

If you don’t want to buy a camera bag at all there are some great tutorials on how to make inserts to fit your usual bag or purse. Also a great idea! Check my Pinterest board “Camera Stuff” for more ideas.
Stay tuned to see what I end up doing. 😀

Rule of Thirds

As I learn more and more about photography I found this great tutorial by Alishia of Just Leesha  about the “Rule of thirds”, on the Simple as That blog.

Original photo.
I love this photo, its not that sharp, because its taken with an Iphone and cold shaky hands. But its so me. I love water, and if I can’t bathe and swim, I settle for standing in it in rubber boots. 🙂img_0731

Photo cropped with the “rule of thirds” advice. And its instantly more pleasing to the eye, right. thirds1

Here I have painted in the rule of thirds grid, and you can see I have placed the focus of the picture, the rubber boots, in the intersection of two of the lines. I have even tried to make my left leg follow one of the lines, as good as possible. thirds2

Cuddling Goats

Goats are such fun creatures, these two are obviously best friends. 🙂

It was a cloudy day, and the picture is taken with an Iphone 5s, on top of that it was blurry. This was the best I could do with Lightroom and Photoshop. But the goats did the best part of the job with the photo by being so cute.
