Rats: Pet or Pest?

Diane Özdamar is a french illustrator / graphic designer / photographer that has spent years photographing rats to break the negative image of them by taking cute pictures, and I think she has definitely succeeded. Or what do you think?

Bunny Haircut Day!

Time for the Angoras bunnies, Billy and Ivar, to have a haircut. You have to shear them 4 times a year. Their fur grows about 1mm a day and as you can see on Billy, the grey one, they become extremely fluffy, and it starts matting up and eventually they can’t move and eat and clean themselves. Ivar was first, and here we have shorn most of him, there is some tricky parts around the butt and the front legs and neck left, then we all needed a bit of a break. 🙂

Here we have Ivar with Billy acting as cleaning crew.

Finished! We all did very good today, bunnies and humans! I know it’s not the prettiest haircut, but here we focus on getting the hair of, keeping all bunny parts on, and still do it as fast as possible. Success! Now he feels like warm velvet and is much happier and bouncier, and as you can see, Ivar is a pink bunny disguising as a white one.

Ivar is a sort of rare kind of bunny, a shoulder bunny! This is where he wants to be if you carry him around. And Angoras do have to be comfortable being handled and carried because of all the haircuts they need, so they are totally ok with that.

Bunny Haircut

Haircut day

Someone (Billy) is in need of a haircut! Yes, there is a paw under there, I think.

You need two pairs of special ceramic trimmer blades, so you can switch when they get to hot, blade cleaner and oil. This will all make it go smoother, I used to do it with scissors but it took so long and I was so afraid of cutting them.

We have one paw! And then a half trimmed Billy on the trimming table. Bunnies are supposed to be afraid of heights and not attempt a jump that high, but apparently no one told Billy and Ivar so the have to be watched so they don’t go for it.

Yes you are very cute, and he behaved great today, I think he wanted all the fluff off.

All done!! Not so pretty perhaps but sufficient. One fluffy, one not so fluffy.

“look, I can reach all over!”

Tomorrow its your turn Ivar! So there is no point in saving all that hay for later.
